the classical book on Language Contact seems to be Uriel Weinreich's "Languages in Contact". Don't know if there is any newer standard work.

Thanks. I should also mention Thomason & Kaufman, "Language Contact, Creolization, and Genetic Linguistics", which is perhaps most useful for showing how creolization has been over-used as an explanation.
