You tell you invented "elir" from scratch? I don't believe you. "Elää" happens to be Finnish for "to live". :) Or is this another demonstration of the chance resemblances?

Most likely it's chance, I'm afraid. I used to browse a 26-language dictionary when creating Verdurian words, which included Finnish, so it's possible I saw elää. But I tended to be, if anything, too literal about borrowings-- I wouldn't have modified the ending like that.
